Bathinda: Manya Jindal from Bathinda brought laurels to the state by topping the Class X exams, the results of which were declared by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday.
She scored 499 marks out of 500 and shared the top position with 12 other students from across the country.

Talking to reporters, elated Manya, a student of local Saint Xavier’s School, said, “I refrained myself from using the Internet or social networking platforms throughout the year and devoted equal time for all subjects. Sticking to the NCERT syllabus and solving sample question papers of previous years came in real handy.”

Manya scored cent per cent marks in Mathematics, English, Hindi and Social Science while 99 marks out of 100 in Science.

“Science is my favourite subject. I have always aspired to be a doctor,” she added.

Manya is planning to opt for medical stream but hasn’t zeroed in on any particular school or college so far.

Sharing her schedule, Manya, a resident of Shakti Nagar in the city, said, “I used to study for 4-5 hours daily. During exams, I spent 8-9 hours studying. I always believed in self-study and took tuitions just for mathematics.”

On coping with stress, Manya said, “I love to dance and listen to music. I also like to chit-chat with my friends and family members.”

Meanwhile, the joy of students, parents and faculty members of Saint Xavier’s School knew no bounds.

Manya’s mother Isha Jindal, a homemaker, said, “She has always been a dedicated child. Whatever she has done, whether its study or any household chore, she did it with complete dedication. She is quite intelligent and had been consistent in her academic performance to date.”

Her father Padam Jindal, a stockbroker, said, “It is indeed a proud moment for us that our daughter has topped at the national level. She wants to pursue medical and become a doctor.”

Meanwhile, Father Cidloy Furtado, principal of Saint Xavier’s School, said, “Apart from the hard work and dedication of Manya, the credit of this achievement goes to former principal Father Eulalio Farnandes, who left the school a month ago.”
