New Delhi: Mild tremors were felt in New Delhi and the National Capital Region for nearly a minute this evening.
Micro-blogging site Twitter was abuzz with people writing about the tremors.
The tremors came shortly after an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter Scale struck about 200 kilometres off Japan's coast in the Pacific Ocean.
In Tokyo, buildings shook for around a minute and set off car alarms. The earthquake was reportedly at a depth of 696 kilometres.
No tsunami warning was immediately issued.
