Mohali: Apparently taking a cue from Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s latest blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan, the SAS Nagar police on Thursday went beyond the call of duty to reunite a four-year-old lost girl with her family even as there was no clue where she was from.

An assistant sub-inspector, along with a constable, roamed with the girl across the city in search of her house as she did not know the name of the area where she resides and the identity of her parents.

The police rescued Tanvi (4) at around 10am from the market of Phase 1 in SAS Nagar under the mission Muskaan. Assistant subinspector (ASI) Dilbagh Singh said they had received information from the police control room (PCR) about a lost girl in the morning. He, along with a constable, rescued the child from the market.

The girl was not able to explain the location of her house. On the basis of whatever little she revealed, cops started searching for her house on a bike. The ASI said as the girl was rescued from the Phase 1 market, they started the search in nearby villages, including Shahimajra, Madanpura and other areas, but without success.

After around five hours, when the cops were crossing by a school in Mohali village some students of a school identified the girl and told cops where she lived. Dilbagh said the students then helped the police in finding her house. After five hours of search, the girl’s family was traced to Valmiki Colony of Phase 6 in SAS Nagar.

Ranbir, girl’s father, told the police that he, along with Tanvi, had gone to Phase 1 administrative complex to apply for Aadhaar card in the morning. He said he left Tanvi behind near his cart, from where she walked away.

Ranbir told the police he, along with his family and neighbours, were searching for her since morning in the nearby areas. He said they were planning to inform the police and lodge a missing complaint. The family was searching for a photo of Tanvi which they were to submit to the police when the cops reached their house with the child.
