Bizman Used iPhone App to Track Cell Phone That Fell Out of Plane at 9,300ft

A Texas businessman used an app to find his iPhone in a rural pasture after it fell about 9,300 feet during a flight from Houston.

More incredibly, Ben Wilson says his cellphone still works.

'It was by the side of the road,' said Wilson, chuckling. 'The donkey pointed out where it was.'

Wilson says he and a pilot were traveling home Monday in a Beechcraft Bonanza when a pressure change caused the passenger door to open slightly and the phone was sucked out.

Wilson didn't realize his cellphone had fallen out until after landing.

'The pressure popped and a newspaper flew out but I didn't see the phone go. After we got back I looked for it on the floor (of the plane) and in my briefcase but couldn't find it,' Wilson told the Times Record.

Wilson, who owns Gas Corporation of America in Wichita Falls, used an app to narrow the search to near Jacksboro, more than 50 miles away.

We used his Find My iPhone app and learned it was still alive,' said John Kidwell, Gas Corp.'s vice president of sales.

Using Find My iPhone, the phone not only reported its location but laid out a map where owner Wilson could find it.

WIlson and an employee pair set on their search Tuesday, and ended up in a rural pasture.

Along the way, they met a friendly donkey who followed them as they duo carried out the search.

They found the cellphone under a mesquite tree. 'It was in one piece, scratched a bit on the corners, but it still worked!' said Wilson.
