Mussoorie: Forty-two MLAs, including five ministers, in Uttarakhand have not disclosed their assets as required under the the Uttar Pradesh Ministers and MLAs Act 1975. These MLAs belong to the BJP, the Progressive Democratic Front (PDF) and the Congress. This has been revealed in the response to an application filed under the Right to Information Act (RTI) by advocate Nadimuddin from Kashipur recently.
The response to the RTI application stated that the five ministers in the state government, besides 37 MLAs of the total 70 belonging to the BJP, the Congress and the PDF have not submitted the details of their moveable and immoveable properties to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly according to the law.
The last date for the submission of the asset details was October 15 but public representatives, who talk about transparency and honesty, have failed to display it in their official conduct. The Uttar Pradesh Ministers and MLAs Act 1975 states that the disclosure of assets is mandatory for all MLAs and ministers within three months of being elected to the Vidhan Sabha.
Nadimuddin says he had asked for the information along with the guidelines of its being published in the government gazette. The public information officer of the Vidhan Sabha in his reply dated October 15, letter number 367, stated that under Section 3 of the Uttar Pradesh Ministers and MLAs Act 1975, the ministers and the MLAs had to disclose their assets and that of their family members to the Vidhan Sabha Secretary within three months. By June 30, they had to submit the details of their assets and that of their family members, said Nadimuddin.
