Dehradun: A major fire broke out at the Goldy complex on the Diwali night on Wednesday that destroyed offices situated there. Fire engines were rushed to the complex and they took nearly one hour to control the fire.
It was revealed during preliminary investigation that a short circuit was reason behind the fire.
Similarly, a minor fire incident was reported from a house on the Mohini Road, but no one was injured. Fire incidents were reported from DL Road, CPWD Colony, Neshvilla Road, Tyagi Bazaar, Darshani Gate, Band Bazaar, Raipur etc. but no casualty was reported from anywhere.
SSP Sadanand Datte said most of the fire incidents were minor and were controlled in time. He said no casualty was reported in any of these fire incidents.
Datte said the Diwali celebrations were peaceful as additional policemen were deployed in the city to stop any untoward incident.
He said the police had made elaborate security and traffic arrangements for the festival season.
He said senior police officers were also on patrolling last night to maintain law and order in the city.
Chief Fire Officer, Dehradun, Surendra Kumar Sharma, said no casualty was reported in fire incidents that broke out in shops and houses as fire tenders responded timely.
He said fire tenders were deployed at Kotwali, Clock Tower, Saharanpur Chowk, Premnagar, Dilaram Chowk, Shashtardhara crossing, Dharampur and Paltan Bazaar. Besides, the department had deployed two fire tenders each at Rishikesh, Mussoorie, Vikasnagar and Selaqui respectively.
Sharma said bike fire fighters were deployed at crowded and busiest markets of the city in order to extinguish fire. He said firemen were instructed to remain on alert with an aim to respond swiftly in case fire breaks out in any part of the city.
Meanwhile, 10 persons who received minor burn injuries were brought to the Government Doon Hospital. They were discharged after first aid.
