Tamil Nadu's Political Rivalry Comes To Open At Delhi Airports: Two Lawmakers Come To Blows

New Delhi:  The rivalry between Tamil Nadu's two political giants - DMK and the AIADMK - is legendary. But today, a couple of lawmakers from the two parties took it to quite another level at the Delhi airport.

While the details were sketchy, sources told NDTV that AIADMK lawmaker Sasikala Pushpa and DMK's Trichy Siva -- both members of the upper house -- were booked on the same Jet Airways flight to Chennai.

An internal report says the trouble started when Ms Sasikala was at the security check. Mr Siva, at the time, was 15 feet away, eyewitnesses said. As the exchange was in Tamil, most couldn't make out what triggered it. But the next thing everyone saw was that she charged towards him and started raining blows and kicks.

Mr Siva tried to defend himself but was apparently floored. Both of them were not allowed to board the flight.

NDTV tried to contact both MPs for their comments but they didn't respond. Neither did their assistants.

Airport officials said no police report had been filed in the case either but the lawmakers may choose to bring it to the attention of the Rajya Sabha chairman.
