Apple has yet to unveil the iPhone 8, but the latest rumors of its 2018 smartphone have already hit the web.
A new supply chain claim echos rumors that the iPhone 9 will be available in two sizes, including one with a massive screen that would be Apple's biggest yet.
The 'Plus' size will reportedly have a 6.46-inch screen and will be sold alongside a smaller 5.85-inch model in a bid to compete with Samsung's Galaxy Note.
Apple's iPhone 9
A report has revealed what is believed to be information regarding Apple's iPhone 9.
Samsung and Apple have signed a non- disclosure agreement for 80 million OLED panels - Samsung would provide the screens.
Because Apple's upcoming flagship is set to launch in September, the report has left many to speculate that the deal is in regards to the iPhone 9.
It was also revealed that the iPhone 9 will display will be offered in two sizes - a 5.58-inch and 6.46-inch.
The leak comes from a source within Samsung Display, the sole OLED supplier for the upcoming iPhones.
The source told The Korea Herald that Apple has started development work with Samsung Display and other part supply makers earlier than usual.
'The development schedule has been advanced considering diverse factors such as funding, facility investment and production plans,' a sources close to the matter said on the condition of anonymity.
'Work for this year's iPhone started in April, also earlier than usual.'
The source also said the smaller version was originally going to be a 5.28-inch model but that the firm upped it to 5.85 inches because of growing consumer demand for bigger-screen phones.
If everything goes as rumored, Apple will sell three OLED model phones next year following its debut with the screen on the iPhone 8.
It's estimated Apple will secure OLED panels for 70 million phones this year and 170 million next year.
The firm sells more than 200 million units each year.
Acclaimed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, of KGI Securities, has since refuted this, saying the iPhone 8 launch date will be right in line and right on the same day as the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus, although it is expected to be available in limited quantities.
Indeed it's now known the phone will be unveiled on September 12 at the new Steve Jobs Theater, but it's not clear in what quantities the new headsets will be available.
Kuo said the phone will initially be in short supply, with the company producing only 3 to 4 million devices in this quarter.
The supple chain leak about an early deal between Apple and Samsung Display for 6-inch screens on the iPhone 9 support rumors that came out in May.
'The two companies have recently signed a non-disclosure agreement on general conditions, including the screen size,' an industry source said in the report, which was first revealed by The Korea Herald.
This could be the same source behind today's leak.
However, the person familiar with the matter noted that other details including the smartphones designs and functions are 'still under development.'
