Sony Launches Its Most-Expensive Smartphone; Huawei's New Smartphones

Japan-based smartphone brand Sony expanded its Xperia range in India with the launch of Sony Xperia XZ2. The smartphone is priced at Rs 72,990, making it the costliest smartphone offered by the company till date.

The company’s new flagship smartphone has world’s first 4K HDR movie recording feature. The dual-SIM smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and runs Android Oreo operating system. Sony Xperia XZ2 packs 6GB RAM paired with 64GB internal storage. The storage can be further expanded up to 400GB through a micro-SD support. Optiemus Infracom, the company licenced to sell BlackBerry phones in India, launched BlackBerry KEY2 in the country at Rs 42,990. Just like the BlackBerry KEYOne, the BlackBerry KEY2 will also be exclusively available on Amazon India website, starting July 31. The smartphone comes in Black colour, sports a 4.5-inch display and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor paired with 6GB of RAM. The device comes in two storage options -- 64GB and 128GB. The storage can be further expanded up to 2TB by adding a microSD card. Running Android 8.0 Oreo operating system, the device comes with hybrid dual-SIM support and dual rear camera.

Xiaomi’s subsidiary brand Huami introduced its Amazfit Bip and Stratos smartwatches in India. The Amazfit Bip is priced at Rs 5,499, while the Amazfit Stratos comes at Rs 15,999. Both are Flipkart-exclusive devices. Huami’s Amazfit Bip has a 1.28-inch touchscreen display. It comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. This always-on display will show the time, heart-rate, number of steps you took etc.

Amazfit Stratos, has been launched with a 1.34-inch interactive touchscreen display. A 1.2GHz dual-core processor runs the device and it comes with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage. A 290mAh battery comes packed under the hood and the company claims the battery will run up to five days, and up to 35 hours on GPS. Chinese brand Huawei launched the Nova 3 and Nova 3i. Both handsets boast of sporting a dual camera setup on both front and back, with AI-support. Moreover, both handsets support Huawei's QMoji, AI-powered 3D emojis, which is quite similar to Apple's Animojis. Readers must note that both the Nova 3 and Nova 3i were launched in China earlier this month, along with Talkband B5 wearable.

The Huawei Nova 3 costs Rs 34,999 for the variant that offers 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage. As for the Huawei Nova 3i, this device comes at Rs 20,990. Both the devices will be exclusively available on Amazon and the customers can pre-book the devices now. Click here to read the full story

Samsung finally regained the No. 1 position in the Indian smartphone market. The company toppled Xiaomi to claim the top spot in the country during the second quarter of 2018, according to Counterpoint research. The report says that the smartphone market returned to its double-digit growth (year-on-year). As per the latest figures, Samsung achieved 29% market share in the country.

 The other three Chinese smartphone brands that took the third, fourth and fifth spot are Vivo, Oppo and Honor (sub-brand of Huawei). The three brands captured 12%, 10% and 3% respectively. While Honor moved up from 1% in Q2 2017, Oppo (including Realme) stayed flat with 10% and Vivo dropped by 1%. The ‘Others’ segment captured the remaining 18%. Click here to read the full story
