Chandigarh: A demountable bed, designed for MLAs and Panjab University students, was sold for a record Rs 33 lakh at an auction in London recently.
A London-based auction house had put heritage furniture designed by Pierre Jeanneret, cousin of world-famous architect Le Corbusier, for sale online.
Seven items worth around Rs 2 crore were put up for auction, which started on October 18. The demountable bed was designed in 1955-56 by Pierre Jeanneret. It was put up for auction at an estimated cost of Rs 17 lakh.
A writing chair of Panjab University was sold for Rs 7,64,300. The chair, designed for the science department and administrative offices of the PU, was put up for auction at an estimated cost of Rs 5.14 lakh.
A pair of chairs, designed for the Himalayan Hostel cafeteria and private residences in Chandigarh in 1955-1960, was sold for Rs 10,58,200.
