Anurag Thakur: No Semblance Of "Anurag" And Soft-Spoken Fathe

It looks that year-2020 is not going to be happy for Anurag Thakur, as 2017 wasn't for him. The BJP's young 'babbler' Member Of Parliament from 'Himachal Pradesh and currently Minister Of State for Finance has a penchant for being whammy.

In his over-enthusiasm to run ahead, he often lands himself in tricky situation. His latest habitude "Goli Maro chant" in Delhi assembly elections may land him in trouble. Even union minister, Amit Shah has expressed unhappiness over such chants.

He has been at loggerhead with party chief. J.P. Nadda, as both sailed the same boat in their home state and parliament constituency. Nadda has grown bigger than Anurag in stature. After High Court ordered registration of FIR against those emitting fiery speeches, his minister position is in danger, the same way he lost BCCI in 2017.

Despite having the honor of being youngest chief of world's richest Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). he was sacked by the Supreme Court for not implementing the reforms. Top Court had asked the BCCI to implement the recommendations of Justice RM Lodha committee in July 2016.

The Lodha committee was appointed by Supreme Court in January 2015 to look into the functioning of the BCCI and suggest changes to its constitution. The Supreme Court had given the BCCI four to six months to implement the Loda reforms. However, BCCI then led by Anurag Thakur opposed the major reforms and kept defying the Supreme Court.

The result was that he was sacked by the top court and became the first BCCI chief to lose his post after court intervention. It is said history repeats himself. Is history repeating? The Delhi high court ha s asked the Delhi Police to ‘take a conscious decision with respect to the registration of FIRs’ against BJP leaders Anurag Thakur, Parvesh Verma and Kapil Mishra, and others for making hate speeches inciting violence in the national capital. And if FIR is registered against Anurag Thakur, it will be difficult for him to be in the good books of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister, Amit Shah.

It is beyond anybody's comprehension as to why Anurag Thakur is so different from been his father, Prem Kumar Dhumal, the two-time Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. The soft-spoken, well-cultured and well-meaning Dhumal is known for making even critics his admirer. As Anurag has been groomed by his father, he was seen to walk in his father's shoes. But his temperament doesn't match his father. It matches more to his father-in-law Thakur Gulab Singh. also a politician from Mandi district. Elected to sate assembly seven-time from Jogindernagar, Thahur Gulab Singh, also served as speaker and minister.

I have seen Thakur Gulab Singh from college days and always found him buoyant and petrified with an air arrogance. Even, while as minister, Thakur Gulab Singh was not as popular as other leaders from Mandi. He changed sides. Entered assembly via Janata Party in 1977, switched over to Congress, and was once camp follower of Pandit Sukh Ram and finally joined BJP. He has stayed put there.

Anurag Thakur though is a die hard saffron man and has led party youth wing but his penchant for emitting fire is sure to harm him. Once I asked a close confident of PK Dhumal about his impression about Anurag Thakur, his instant reaction was " He is not as soft-spoken' as his father and is more aggressive. Such traits may put him in trouble". Well, this Dhumal's follower read the writings on the wall. but alas! not the Anurag Thakur.
