Lies spread faster than the truth. Renowned journalist Ravish Kumar learnt this the hard way the other day after saffron brigade targeted him to spread lies about him. He was misquote by the saffron brigade by putting words into his mouth on Gen. Bipin Rawat's wife Madhulika. And lies were so dirtiest that Ravish had to come live to nail down them.
Not only Ravish but all those who don't toe the line of Modi's "Andh bhakti" (Blind follower) are on the hit list of saffron brigade. This is the part of saffron brigade daily chorus. All through the day, this brigade not only sing Modi chorus but also spread lies about the critics of Modi.
Ravish Kumar is an renowned journalist, and presently working as Senior Executive Editor of NDTV India. He hosts a number of programs including the channel's flagship weekday show Prime Time, Hum Log, Ravish Ki Report and Des Ki Baat. As he speaks fearlessly and contents of his programs are most highly analytical, critical of the ruling class, he is the prime target of 'saffron hate brigade".
There should be no problem with anybody's "Andh Bhakti" as long as it remains within the confine of personal loyalty. All political activists in India are wedded to "Andh Bhakti". Congress men are "Andh Bhakt" of Nehri-Gandhi family , Tamil people have till today remined "Andh Bhakt of Tamil leaders, J. Jayalalithaa and M. Karunanidhi and his dynasty. And so are Marathas of Bal Thackeray and is dynasty. Right from the birth, Indians are educated to be blind followers, Their schooling culture does not encourage questioning beliefs or progressive thinking. Thats why Indians remained slaves to stupid traditions and unwanted customs.
However, this "Andh Bhakti" gets greatly harmful when "Andh Bhakt" place the individual above the institutions that make India strong. Its not surprising that Prime Minister Narendra Modi enjoys an insane of support among his fans. Even the young, educated and digitally savvy people are his "Andh Bhakt" (blind followers)
The reason for Modi’s "Andh Bhakti" is obvious. He is the only contemporary leader from whom people see some hope. He speaks common man language that connects him to masses. He is seen as a bold leader — to fix India. Whether his boldness fixes the problem is a moot point. For common man, just making the effort and having good intentions means a lot.
A free and fair media is essential for our democracy. If freedom of expression is mutated, all the vitals of the democracy are gone. Such a situation makes the country vulnerable to huge abuse of power. We need to remember that it is the system and societal values that make a country strong. A leader, howsoever popular he is, can't fix India.
Take the case of Pakistan. Our neighbor operates with this messiah misnomer, dating with army generals. This has landed Pakistan in crisis after crisis.
So it is important to remember that "Andh Bhakti or blind faith only harms the nation. We have seen in the past how Yes men and sycophants surround Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister harmed India and led to emergency. Situation today is not different. During her heydays Congressmen used to chant "India is Indira and Indira is India.
Today Modi's "Andh Bhakts" are mesmerized under this euphoria. Like Indira Gandhi rule, even today a very few people working under Modi would have the guts to tell him he is wrong. So,it is the critics who tell him where he could be going wrong and how to course-correct. It is these independent, critical yet constructive voices that can really add value to present governance. Blind fans are always ready to abuse and bully anyone who does anything remotely critical of Modi. But harsh reality is that "Andh Bhakt" are quite useless — to Modi as well as to nation-building.
It is only people like Ravish Kumar and those who have the guts to tell Modi, or for that matter other rulers where they have gone wrong what harm they have done to the nation. Blind bhakts can only hurt the democracy. It spread darkness and remember democracy dies in darkness.
