Dharamsala: The work on construction of the Dharamsala-McLeodganj ropeway will start next month.
The state government has allotted the work to Tril Urban Transport.

The project will involve an investment of Rs 120 crore. It would include the construction of 2.2 km ropeway having 34 gondolas from Dharamsala to McLeodganj.
The gondolas would reach McLeodganj in 7 minutes.
During the peak tourist season, McLeodganj and its adjoining tourist destinations Bhagsunag and Dharamkot are choked with traffic. A few hotel owners have left parking places.
The constructions of these hotels are in violation of the town and country planning rules. Many shopkeepers have encroached upon single-lane roads in the area. The authorities are not acting against the encroachers.
If the ropeway is constructed and vehicles are not allowed to move up to McLeodganj, it will decongest the place and restore its beauty.
The state government has also planned a parking facility along with the ropeway takeoff place. The idea is that vehicles are not allowed to go up to McLeodganj and the people should use the ropeway to reach there.
The state government had also planned two other ropeways in Kangra district. One of these, from Dharamkot to Triund, was planned in 1991 and the foundation stone for it was laid by then Chief Minister Shanta Kumar.
The project has been lingering since then as no investor has come forward to invest in the project.
The government had also announced the construction of ropeway from Chamunda to the Himani Chamunda temple. This was to develop the Himani Chamunda temple, located at 12,000 feet.
