Dehradun: Decks have been cleared for sending the proposal of creating a smart city on 300 acres of tea garden land to the Centre with a high-powered committee headed by Chief Secretary Shatrughan Singh giving the green signal to the project on Monday.
At a meeting of the committee held at the Secretariat, it was informed that the smart city proposal has been prepared in consultation with a cross-section of people, including stakeholders, architects, educational institutions and the public.
It has been proposed to set up the smart city as “green field” keeping in view environmental aspects.
It was mentioned that the proposed smart city will be developed as a higher education hub and will lessen the burden on Dehradun city by reducing congestion in commercial and residential areas.
There will be special zones for famed Dehradun basmati, litchi and tea in the proposed smart city.
The new city will take care of development needs of the next decade.
Senior officials of the government and Mayor Vinod Chamoli took part in the meeting.
