Move It, Move It ! Lemur Auditioning For a Role in Madagascar

If ever they make a live-action version of the Madagascar animated films, this loose-limbed character could be a shoo-in for Julien, the all-dancing ‘lord of the lemurs’.

With jazz hands, heel clicks and ‘Pink Panther’ strut, he proved himself as sprightly as the cartoon star, voiced by Sacha Baron Cohen, who loves to perform to the hit song I Like To Move It.

Experts say the sifaka lemurs’ unique way of moving – standing on their hind legs and throwing their arms in the air – has evolved as a way of getting away from predators as quickly as possible.

Wildlife photographer Shannon Benson capture this dazzling routine in the Berenty Reserve on – where else? – Madagascar.

However, deforestation on the island is making sifakas increasingly endangered.

The lemurs, which grow up to 18in tall, are a relative of the ring-tailed lemur portrayed in the films, and get their name from their distinctive call.
